UNM Johnson Center Expansion & Renovation

UNM Johnson Center Expansion & Renovation (JCER) represents a major overhaul of UNM’s Johnson Center including facility upgrades, LEED certification, and landscape upgrades. GWS worked with FBT and the Civil engineer to reconfigure the entry to the adjacent parking structure, transforming what had been an asphalt parking lot and driveway into a dynamic and welcoming urban space that supports the program of Johnson Gym and compliments the architecture of the newly renovated building. The plan incorporates green infrastructure best practices, emergency access, gathering spaces, regionally appropriate shade trees and plant selections, a partial irrigation renovation of Johnson field, a historic lobo sculpture, jogging track, outdoor class gathering space, an entry plaza, ample bicycle parking, and a custom paving pattern. It is designed to knit seamlessly into the fabric of the campus.
