Groundwork Studio led the creative placemaking process for the renovation of two breezeways located within Tucumcari’s Great Blocks on Main Street. This project will maintain momentum for the larger streetscape and infrastructure improvements project while providing valuable outdoor public space downtown. The renovation incorporates themes central to Tucumcari’s history and culture, including the railroad, agriculture, Route 66 and dinosaurs. Improvements range from temporary community benches and market stands to a one-of-a-kind tyrannosaurus rex “beacon” sculpture that draws visitors in and provides a unique photo op! Additionally, a mural map of downtown Tucumcari highlights local landmarks and destinations.
